Charlotte, age 13
TIS writer of 1 year

Though Charlotte been an Ink Spotter for less than a year, it took no time at all for her to make a huge impression at our studio! She came to us already loving and excelling in writing, and we are thrilled she’s found a creative outlet here. Charlotte’s clever observations make us laugh, her thoughtful writing moves us deeply, and her work ethic blows us away every day!

Charlotte, can you tell us a bit about your experience when you first joined our studio?

When I started TIS I was a little nervous and thought I wouldn't fit in; or that people would be above or below my level, or the classes would be like every other class in school. But that wasn't it at all! As soon as I walked in everybody greeted me like a new and valued friend. And as soon as the class started I realized that there was no set skill level. We could all help each other in different skill areas based on what people were more knowledgeable about. I loved that I had the opportunity to share things I had learned with other writers! You don't need to be a profound writer to go to TIS! But I assure you, by the time you leave, you will be!

Do you have a favorite class?

I love Book Club because we read books that are closer to my level of reading and I am very thankful that my teacher takes time to to think about what we would want to read. Also, the stereotype of book clubs are that people just sit around and talk about the book. That's not it! Have you ever raced around it the dark to find sentences of the book? Or had really amazing book parties? Or written drabbles, debated, or made fake Google search histories for characters? It’s the most fun class of them all.

What can you be found doing when you aren’t at the studio writing ingenious articles or keenly analyzing philosophical theories?

Baking, Writing, Reading, Crafting, Projects of random interests, Swimming, Volleyball, Re-organizing, and now thanks to TIS those things, and many more, have leveled up and broadened out. So thank you to all the truly great people at TIS. You will never know how much it means to me.

Charlotte’s lovely mom Keegan says:
”Charlotte has grown so much while being at the studio. She has been exposed to new topics like Philosophy and often brings up related topics with our family to discuss. She has gained some great technology experience and can use new digital design programs. Her ideas for writing have expanded. While she has always been a strong writer, her work now is deeper and stronger. Going to the Ink Spot is the highlight of her week”
