Frequently asked questions

  • What's the difference between The Ink Spot curiculum and what kids already learn at school?

Our curriculum is proprietary and designed completely in-house. At The Ink Spot your young writer will experience projects, lessons, and experiences they can’t get anywhere else. Our class themes and emphasis on choice and variety allows students the chance to focus on the areas that feel the most meaningful and motivating to them. While writing is the centerpiece of all we do, we supplement our curriculum with games, visual art, performance, and technology which breathes new life into writing education like never before.

  • Which class is best for my child?

Our signature class, Electrifying Creative Writing, is a great starting point for every student. It’s full of variety and engages reluctant writers, passionate writers, and everyone in between.

Feel free to give a us call for more personalized recommendations. We’d love to learn more about your writer and what their goals are.

  • What if my child is already a really great writer?

We love working with students who are dedicated to their craft as a writer! We have a large toolbox of techniques and strategies for advanced writers to take their writing to new heights.A large percentage of our students are gifted learners who excel with writing or other subjects. Those students continue to enroll with us every year because of the variety of class themes, individualized attention and mentorship from our teachers, and ongoing challenge our curriculum provides. Our most dedicated writers find immense value in specific offerings like writing mentorship and advanced group courses.

  • Which classes are best for a writer who is still growing in their skills and/or really dislikes writing?

Private tutoring is a great option for reluctant writers as the projects and curriculum are tailored to each student’s individual interests and goals.

  • Who teaches the classes? Will my child have the same teacher every week?

Your young writer will always have the same teacher week to week. That consistency is important to us as it allows our teachers to truly get to know students and help them to excel. In addition to holding teaching degrees, our teachers are talented and experienced writers themselves who understand both the skills needed to excel as writer and know the most effective techniques and strategies to pass that knowledge onto students.

  • How many students are in each class?

Our weekly tutoring and writing mentorship are both always one-on-one. Our weekly classes and days camps always have 10 students or less for every teacher to ensure each student gets plenty of individual guidance and feedback.

We cap the total enrollment at our studio at 100 memberships. This allows us to offer every one of our students a truly personalized experience. Because of these limitations, several offerings fill quickly. Please join the waitlist for any offerings that interest you.

  • What are the membership options? How long is the commitment after registering?

Our school year membership options include one weekly class, unlimited weekly classes, and private tutoring or mentorship.

You can register anytime throughout the school year as long as space allows. Our class memberships are month-to-month with the exception of March-May when no billing changes can be made.

Our private tutoring or mentorship memberships require a semester commitment.

Our summer day camps are booked weekly based on theme.

  • What happens in a typical class?

Every class is different depending largely on class theme or current project. Our writing classes usually cycle through various cool projects incorporating vital and irreplaceable steps in the writing process like planning, conferencing, and meaningful revising. Book Club classes explore reading through discussion, debate, and games. More niche offerings like Video Production or Dungeons and Dragons will have their own class structures while keeping the same high quality learning focus as all our classes. Private tutoring or mentorship focuses more on each student’s individual goals and passions. All classes incorporate games, collaboration, and showcasing work to build community, confidence, and fun.

  • Can/Should we sign up for the same class every year or try new classes?

You’re welcome to sign up for the same class or new classes year to year.
