Kai, age 16
TIS writer of 7 years
Meet Kai, and prepare to be amazed! This writer and film maker has written and created some of the most recognizable works at TIS! Kai can illuminate new connections in books, form intriguing perspectives in debate, and guide younger students with his amazing mentorship skills, all while maintaining his iconic hair! ;-)
I have had so many experiences here that have expanded my writing prowess. Without The Ink Spot, I wouldn't be on my way to publishing a short nonfiction piece of mine. I thank the studio for that. My learning here also helped me navigate the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts application process and has helped me maintain aptitude in English class and when writing scripts for my film major.
Kai, you’ve been a valued student here at TIS for so long. What have been some of your biggest accomplishments?
What have been some of your favorite class themes and projects in your time here at the studio?
Entrepreneurs week; I learned how to sell an idea and how to conserve money, but it was also just pure fun. I was able to have an amount of control over an idea and follow through with it in a way that I had never been able to before. It holds some of my best experiences. I hold bookclub very close to my heart too; it gave me a wonderful chance to dissect and talk about interesting novels with interesting people. My Casserole villain monologue, about a rogue office casserole thief known for going mad over casseroles in his vicinity. He steals one in the company refrigerator and it gets more and more absurd and insane the longer it goes on. It is my crown jewel. My Mona Lisa.
When you’re not at TIS starting innovative businesses or delivering unexpectedly hilarious villain monologues, what piques your interest most?
I love film. Very much. I also love staring into the souls of Joshua trees in the middle of the desert, all alone.
Kai’s delightful mom Yvonne says:
”The studio has been a welcome retreat for our son, away from school drama, nurturing and educational. He has grown not just as a writer, but as a young man who is able to talk to adults, and help children. Our son has become an enthusiastic storyteller in writing over the years at The Ink Spot. His creative fiction and short essays about his life make me laugh out loud, and sometimes cry. I'm amazed at his dedication to writing, and his eloquence.”
